Holy Family church

Hello dear ones!
Years ago, the Holy Family church burned down in Toronto.
In 1870 there was St. Helen's parish there, and a priest would ride down to meet with the people and conduct mass. It was finally decided to build a church and in 1902 the Church of the Holy Family was erected. In 1997 it completely destroyed. The rebuild began in 1999 and was mostly finished by 2001.

The first church was built out of wood and in 1997 there was construction being done on the roof. It started raining and the workers went down for lunch. There was a spark though, and the whole building was completely destroyed.

And interesting fact and a bit of a mystery is that there was a statue of the Virgin, which went completely unscathed in the totally burned surroundings! Sadly, there are no pictures of the old church. When I talked to the priest he admitted there were none. The church now looks completely different and is no longer wooden.

I was passing by when all this happened, I don't attend this church, but had a nice talk with their parish priest. :) When they were taking away the burnt rubble in huge bins, I found a piece of burnt wood with a holy water bowl still attached. They let me take it.  For years I kept a horseshoe and old keys in it and recently I decided to change it. I added a picture and some rusty parts. The priest I showed it to liked it as well. :)

I wish you all a lovely weekend!

Witam Was kochani moi
Czas temu  spalil sie w Toronto  kosciolek pod wezwaniem Sw Rodziny.
1870 znajdowala sie w miejscu kosciola parafia Swietej Heleny do ktorej dojezdzal ksiadz, by spotykac sie z wiernymi i odprawiac msze. Postanowiono wkoncu, zbudowac w tym miejscu  kosciol. A wiec, w roku 1902, stanal Kosciol Swietej Rodziny, kampletnie spalony  w 1997 odbudowa zaczela sie w 1999 a ukonczono ja 2001
Kiedy przejezdzalam obok spalolego kosciola, zatrzymalam sie i wypytalam ksiedza co sie stalo, ksiadz przeuroczy gawedziasz duzo mi opowiedzial.W tym czasie  wywozono resztki splongo drewna w wielkich skrzyniach to tam wlasnie znalazlam  kawalek deski z kropielnica ,pozwolono mi ja zabrac. Przez lata trzymalam w niej podkowe i stare klucze, wkoncu ja przerobilam dodajac swiety obrazek.Bardzo sie spodobala ta moja  przerobka ksiedzu z kosciolka.

Zycze Wam cudownego weekendu!

Hello Katherine:
What an extraordinary story and one which, very literally, contains a small piece of history.

The replacement church of today looks to be a very handsome building and we do rather like the wide pediment over the main entrance. Is the large house immediately next door the home of the priest? Perhaps there is a school attached too?

figura Matki boskiej wygląda jakby ktoś ją tam wstawił już po pożarze... niesamowite.

Your burnt piece with the holy water bowl creation is AWESOME! Great job my talented friend! I'm surprised they let you take it from the rubble! :)
The photo of the Virgin Mary being the only thing that survived the fire is amazing! Incrediable story!
Thanks for sharing it with us!
hugs,

Katherine this is really an amazing post. What a treasure you rescued from the fire. I love what you did with it. Gave me chills to see the Virgin Mary still standing.

I loved reading your story, dear Kasia....but I love all the "miracles" surrounding our Blessed Mother. It did not surprise me that she would be untouched by the fire. What a treasure you have with the Holy Water bowl! I'm sure you have a most special place in your home for this. Blessings and thank you for all the pictures!
