Hello fall

Hello dear ones!
Since Saturday its been autumn! I welcomed it with my favorite flowers - mums, a fall bundt cake, cupcake and mini bundts. And all this came from one delicious recipe batter. The cake is moist, aromatic and heavy with spices, so autumnish and perfect for a cup of morning tea.

Whoever should be interested with decorating their house with pumpkins this fall, I encourage you to visit sweet  Lori, at Family Trees May Contain Nuts. She's recently started a challenge! :)

Thank you for all the warm get well wishes and comments! I wish you all many smiles and colorful days! :*

2 1/4 cup of flour
1 cup of butter
2 cups of sugar
1 cup plain yoghurt
3 eggs
1 tsp of vanilla extract
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp ground allspice
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease and flour a 9 by 13 inch bundt pan.
Cream the butter and sugar in one bowl and combine all the other ingredients in another -- mix well.
Mix all ingredients until well combined and then for 2 more minutes. Pour into the pan and bake until the toothpick you poke inside comes out clean. (around 30-35 min)

If you want to make it a bit fancier and in a different shape, have fun, you might add apple slices, raisins and nuts as I have, and top with a delicious honey glaze! If you want to make cupcakes, you might add in a cream filled chocolate on the inside and garnish with maple syrup glaze. And if you plan to make tiny bundt cakesters, you just might fill them with chocolate or mousse. In other words, teh cake is delicious and can be used in every shape!

Acorn and more finds

Hello dear ones!

Its a beautiful sunny fall here in Toronto and with it the common cold, which cyouaught all of us girls at home. :( So we're all warmed up, sipping herbs and hoping to get rid of it fast!

Here's my last batch of Cabbagetown finds. I had a few left and Ill share them with you.

A set of shoemakers tools, nice and rusty. A nafta lamp from France, some old photographs (of course). The girls found a piece of an abandoned wasp nest and of course brought it right home. It really brought home the fact that fall is coming!
The acorn I found, hollowed out and covered in old paper, made a little door and finished by placing a little nest inside. This one is going to hang on some branch at home. :)

If you too, catch a cold and feel really thirsty, nothing better than Gatorade to replenish all the lost minerals you sweat out and lose. If of course, you're worried about the chemicals put into that drink, you can make it yourself!

Just add a pinch of salt, a 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and a tablespoon of sugar to a glass of water and you could, in addition add some juice to taste. Preferably lemon juice, but in addition you could flavour it with any juice!

Thank you all for each warm word and for visiting me. I wish you all a colorful and sunny fall!

Witajcie mili ludzie!
Cudowna sloneczna jesien zawitala do Toronto a z nia grypa ktora nie omieszkala wpasc do mnie do domku:( Wiec wszystkie trzy sie wygrzewamy i popijamy ziolka co by jak najszybciej pozbyc sie chorobska.

Hummus and finds

Hello dear ones!

Do you guys know and like Hummus? Its a paste made out of chickpeas and sesame sauce.
The exact origin of Hummus is unknown, but Hummus is an Arabic word for chickpeas. In actuality, the words are "Hummus bi Tahini" which translates to chickpeas and sesame. In short, the invention of Hummus is chalked up to the ancient Arabs though we have notes of it being used in ancient Egypt and even Hippocrates writes about it. All that said, the first actual written recipe we have dates back to the 12th-13th century, though the recipe that we have now has altered over time into our recent recipe, that is said to be found in 18th century transcripts. Not to mention homemade hummus is cheaper and healthy!!! Here's the recipe for mine.

Use one can of chickpeas (16 oz)  If not from a can, soak the chickpeas for 14 hours and then proceed to boiling, changing the water and boiling again for 1 1/2 hours. If you prefer not to cook, soak for 24 hours.
pour in 1/4 of a cup of the liquid form the can.
2 tbsp of Tahini
4-5 tbsp of lemon juice (or as much as you like to taste)
2 crushed cloves of garlic
2 tbsp of olive oil
salt & pepper to taste
2 tbsp of any kind of crushed nut you like

And in case you need to make Tahini, here's how you do it:
Just throw some sesame seeds onto a dry pan and roast them on high-medium heat for about 5 minutes. Then transfer to a blender and pour in one tablespoon of olive oil. Crush together and if needed, add a bit more olive oil (Make a paste thats similar in consistency to peanut butter) You can use either white or black sesame seeds, I made two; one from each.
You can of course add more seasonings and spices to your liking, I added some chili powder too.

You can eat them with crackers, pitas or on toast, healthy and delicious!

I promised to show you part two of my cabbagetown finds. I actually have some old ironcast shoemaker tools to show you guys but I need to clean them up a bit first. :)
The book is from 1914 has stunning crepe paper between pages and lovely illustrations. The other is in Spanish and also beautifully illustrated from 1937.
This cast iron shoe shaper is not clean yet, but I think looks amazing and these weights are so cool, though I have no idea for what theyre used for - I liked them, and here they are!
The plates are handpainted from England and I fell in love with the flowers because theyre both a bit different.

Let us remember and pray for all the victims from the World Trade Center massacre. They are in our thoughts and hearts.[*]

Witajcie kochane ludziska!
Znali i robili ja starozytni egipcjanie ,pisal o niej Hippocrates, pierwsza napisana znana nam recepta pochodzi z 12-13 wieku wlasnie z krajow arabskich.
Kto kolwiek wymyslil hummus ten niechaj wie ,ze wymyslil zdrowe jedzonko.
Hummus jedzono z kazdym pieczywem i krakersami i tak do dzis zostalo, zmienialy sie tylko przyprawy i zmieniano smaki wedle upodoban.Dzisiejsze przepisy pochodza z 18 wieku
Podam przepis ktory najczesciej robie w domciu dla moich dziewczyn.

Puszka ciecierzycy( 16 OZ.)Jesli uzywamy  nie z puszki to moczymy 14 godz. i zagotowywujemy zmieniamy  wode  i gotujemy 1-5godz.Jesli chcemy jesc na sorowo bez gotowania moczymy 24 godz.
1/4 soku z puszki ciecierzycy
2 Lyzki tahini
4-5 lyzek soku z cytryny( do smaku ile kto lubi)
2 zabki czosnku
sol i pieprz do smaku
2 lyzki oleju z oliwek
2 lyzki jakich kolwiek orzechow (jesli ktos lubi )
Jak zrobic tahini;
Wszystko razem  zmiksowac do momentu otrzymania gladkiej masy. I to wszystko:)
Mozna wedle upodoban dodac wiecej przypraw .Ja zrobilam dwa smaki z czarnego sezamu ibialego dodajac slodkiej papryki .Zdrowe i latwe do zrobienia, mozna podac do krakersow jako snack.

Obiecalam pokazac druga czesc moich skarbow znalezionych w kapuscianym miasteczku, zostaly mi jeszcze narzedzia szewskie z konca 18 wieku ale musze je troszeczke wyczyscic wiec pokaze potem.

Wspomnijmy w pacierzach, myslach te wszystkie duszyczki ktore staly sie ofiarami terorystycznego ataku w World Trade Center .Niech spoczywaja w spokoju...[*]

Treasures and face powder.

Hello dear ones!

I've been waiting for this weekend for a month! Cabbagetown in Toronto hosts an annual Cabbagetown festival and as every year, there are old yard sales galore, filled with teh most delicious antique/vintage items! This year unfortunately, it was rainingand the Toronto International Film Festival was in town, so as you can guess, not too many yard sales this year. :(
There were a few people around, ready to grab up something good from the vendors open, and despite this, I managed to hunt up some stuff that Im proud of, all before the rain hit HARD again - Needless to say, this perked up my mood!
I found a framed print from the year 1899, grabbed that up so fast, this remembers times before the Titanic! The frame is a bit beat up but that's its charm, seeing every month it lived though.
I found some hankies that have beautiful stitching and a green glass bottle with this beautiful design!
I found a copper vanity set that includes a perfume bottle, another sweet bottle, two brushes and a powder box. You can still smell the perfume in the bottle and there is still powder in the box. It smells strange, nothing I could identify as modern. I wonder which lady, or maybe girl had this set sitting by her mirror as she beautifuied herself.
On that note, history of face powder and rouge is so old that its hard to imagine us women not using these products to looks beautiful.

In ancient Egypt for example, women and men used face powder to whiten up. Whiteners then began to be the staple of beauty;  Cleopatra used crushed crocodile dung for face powder not to mention other toxins. In Rome, they used chalk and lead (which became a thing in Europe later on), In Asia, they used rice flour with other toxins and acids, Europe was rather big on lead, chalk, zinc oxide, mercury, nitrate of silver and many acids. these were cosmetics used by the rich of course, the poor had to make do with flour, regular bleedings (to look pale), and of course,  drinking small amounts of arsenic and all this to look paler and more delicate. :)
Only in Victorian times was the use of makeup frowned upon and ladies took to biting their lips and pinching their cheeks.

But how could we judge? These girls had no clue it was all toxic! We, women of the 20-21 century knowand still we put on stuff thats bad for us! Here's three very toxic ingredoents we have in our coverup, face powders and concealers; Diethanolamine (DEA), Triethalomine (TEA), Amonoethanolamone (MEA). They are carcinogens, destroy your kidneys and liver, and damage hair, skin and eyes. These are the ones to look out for wwhen reading the ingredients on your makeup. :)

I want to thank all the lovely people who drop in and leave sweet comments and I will show you the rest of my treasures in my next post, since I dont want to bore you too much. :)

Witajcie mile duszyczki!
Stalo kilka osob kolo swoich domow gotowych w kazdej chwili chwycic skarby i schowac sie do domu przed deszczem.
Znalazlam ramke z printem zdjecia z roku 1899.
Kupilam ,przeciez to pamieta czasy przed titanikiem !
komplecik z miedzi -flakoniki do perfum jeszcze pachnace dawnym zapachem  a w pudeleczku zostal stary puder o dziwnym zapachu ktorego nie umiem porownac z zadnymi dzisiejszymi.
Ciekawam u jakiej  damy a moze zwyklej prostej dziewczyny ten komplecik stal gdzies przy lustrze w ktorym poprawiala swoja urode.
Swoja droga historia pudru jest tak stara ze trudno sobie wyobrazic ,ze my kobiety od zarania dziejow szukalismy kosmetykow by sie upiekszyc.
W starozytnym Egipcie np.kobiety uzywaly pudrow z odchodow krokodyla z dodatkami trujacych proszkow w starozytnym Rzymie z kredy i olowiu w Chinach i Japoni z maki ryzowej z dodatkiem trujacej chemii i kwasow,w Europie olow , kreda , azotan srebra, tlenek cynku i merkury.
Trzy najbardziej trujace powodujace raki skory, niszczace watrobe i nerki, powodojace choroby skory i oczu  to;Dietanolamina (DEA),Trietanolamina (TEA),Monoetanolamina (MEA) i tych wlasnie powinno sie unikac czytajac sklad naszych kosmetykow:)
Podziekowac chcialam wszystkim zagladajacym do mnie duszyczkom i zyczyc cudownego tygodnia!
Reszete swoich zakupionych skarbow pokaze w nastepnych postach aby nie zanudzac Was zdjeciami.

Bags

Hello dear ones!

Fall is creeping up on us slowly so Im all aflutter! The end of horrid heat and humid! Here comes crisp air  and windy days and the city will slowly turn aflame in fall leaves! I know its weird, most people dont like cold, rain and grayish days and it weird but Im just weird like that! :)

Coming back from my dentist I wasnt in a bright mood but I bumped into a yard sale and there I met a bag handmade in thick, burgundy leather. Its old, but in ideal state and most importantly, it was only $20!!! I grabbed it without thinking! Its a bit heavy, but Im in love!
I love big leather bags that can hold alot, that means everything I think might come in handy, so theres alot of stuff. The bag isnt huge, but big enough for me to be happy!
My girls decided that theyre going to wear it to school and when they tire of it, Itll probably become a piece in home decor. :)

So, my oldest, Magda, decided to make a coin purse - a first try for her. She stitched in a self designed girl in a teacup and a teabag and gifted this to Vanda. I think for a first time, this turned out great! It was nice seeing her sitting hunched over a piece of cloth stitching away as girls used to do in old times. :) So Im bragging about her first project made from beginning to end, by hand.

Thank you all for each sweet comment and fro coming over. I wish you all the weather you love best!

Witam Was cieplutko!
Juz pomalenku jesien sie zbliza wiec ja cala w skowronkach !Koniec   upalow i wilgotnosci ,swierze powietrze i wiaterek otula pomalenku miasto a drzewa beda w cudnych kolorach.

Pierwszy raz w swoim zyciu moja sarsza corcia Magdaenka uszyla portmanetke.

Dress form

Hello dear ones!

I found a dress form in an old junk store. It was black, and I didnt want to keep it that way so I altered it. I changed the colour completely and this is what it turned out to look like. I took old backing material and scraps of old paper and blended them together on the form. Im planning to add stuff to it when the time comes for Carol's Dress Form Ball, at The Polka Dot Closet, a delightful occasion!
If anyone wishes to join this Ball, its months away, so you have plenty of time to plan and prepare, but head on over to her blog because its filled with amazing creativity and plenty of treasures!

Im also sharing an old photograph that I found forgotten, and framed, I plan to hang it up in my house.

Dearies, Summer is almost done, so I wish you all the most wonderful remaining days. Filled with sunshine and happiness. Thank you all for dropping in and leaving sweet words!
